NATO openly challenged Russia by rejecting Moscow’s key request amid the security saga with Ukraine.
NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has said that the military alliance will not stop its expansion into Europe, wherever it is.
We will not compromise on fundamental principles, including the right of any country to decide the path it will follow and including any kind of security agreement it wishes to be a part of.
Russian President Vladimir Putin last month made demands to the US and NATO as part of efforts to ease tensions over Ukraine as Moscow has amassed tens of thousands of troops along the border raising fears of an invasion of the neighboring country.
But most of the proposals, made public by Russia, including a draft agreement with NATO countries and the offer of a treaty between Moscow and the United States, seem unacceptable to the military alliance of 30 countries, despite fears that Putin may order Russian military forces to enter Ukraine.
