NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg told a news conference in Brussels that Russia was not giving up on Ukraine.
“What we are seeing now is a brutality in the scale and extent of the war that we have not seen in Europe since World War II.”he said.
“And this is extremely serious. It is terrible and it certainly causes suffering for the Ukrainian people. But it is also dangerous for all of us. “And we see the nature of President Putin’s war, his lack of respect for and for the rule of law, for international rules, and also his lack of respect for fundamental human rights.”
He added that Moscow is not giving up on its offensive in Ukraine, but will try to refocus on taking full control of the Donbas region in the coming weeks.
“We are now seeing a significant movement of (Russian) troops away from Kiev to regroup, rearm and resupply and shift their focus to the east.” said Stolenberg.
“In the coming weeks, we expect a further Russian push into eastern and southern Ukraine and to build a land bridge to occupied Crimea.”
