NATO foreign ministers, including Minister Olta Xhacka, will meet in Berlin for an informal meeting, today and tomorrow
The main focus of the discussion of NATO Foreign Ministers is expected to be on the current situation as a result of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and the impact of this aggression on the security of NATO countries.
Sweden and Finland will also attend the meeting, as NATO Foreign Ministers will also discuss the Alliance’s support for the possible membership of these two countries.
Today’s meeting is also attended by Turkey, another NATO member, which yesterday, openly expressed opposition to the possible membership of Sweden or Finland.
On the other hand, Moscow has said it will see each country joining the alliance as a threat.
After its powerful eastern neighbor invaded Ukraine on February 24, Finnish political and public opinion shifted dramatically in favor of NATO membership as a deterrent against Russian aggression.
Sweden is following the same path. The two countries have long cooperated with NATO, while Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has openly expressed support for their membership in the military alliance.
