Since September 2019, the Bank of Albania has issued new lek banknotes.
After the four banknotes, the 200, 5000, 1000 and 10 000, the new series consisting of 6 denominations has been completed today with the launch of the 500 and 2000 lekë banknotes.
Despite the issuance of new banknotes, citizens in parallel with the new banknotes will be able to use the old denominations, until they are totally replaced in the market.
