Although talks on the Vienna nuclear deal show promising signs, Iranian military leaders are using aggressive rhetoric to thwart attacks by the US and its allies on the country’s nuclear infrastructure.
The eighth round of talks on the renewal of what is known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) kicked off this week in Austria. The seventh round ended with US and European disappointment and warnings that the window to a diplomatic, non-military solution to Iran’s growing nuclear capabilities was closing.
Amid reports that the U.S. has discussed the possibility of military strikes on Iran and amid ongoing Israeli threats to do the same, senior Iranian military officials issued clear warnings that enemy action could spark a bloody conflict, and costly regional.
Major General Gholam Ali Rashid, the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Corps headquarters in Khatam al-Anbia, told reporters that the group’s recent and forthcoming exercises should serve as a warning to anyone thinking of attack Iran.
“We want the enemy not to test our will and strength because it will not be able to afford the costs of a massive and comprehensive confrontation“, Said the commander, quoted by the Fars news agency.
“The enemy does well to believe in the power of the Islamic Republic of Iran“, He added.
