North Korea yesterday marked the 10th anniversary of Kim Jong Un’s coming to power, calling on the country’s army of about 1.2 million people to join him and possibly “protect him with their lives,” according to state media.
The daily Rodong Sinmun of the ruling labor party urged the communist country’s military leaders to turn into an “impenetrable fortress and bulletproof vest to protect Kim with their lives.”
The propaganda newspaper further elevated the “energetic leadership” of the leader with his offensives “for a new advancement and an aggressive spirit that resists time”.
“With the leader in the truck, building a strong socialist country will be victorious and the future is in pink,” the editorial said.
Kim became the supreme leader of North Korea on December 29, 2011, following the death of his predecessor father two days earlier from a heart attack.
The anniversary comes as North Korean leaders gather at a major conference earlier this year to discuss Pyongyang’s approach to relations with the United States, which holds the country under tough economic sanctions.
