North Korea has confirmed its first death by coronavirus, while state media have said tens of thousands of other people are facing fever and chills.
Six people have died after suffering from fever and one of them has tested positive for the Omicron variant of the coronavirus, state media reported on Friday.
According to her, 187,000 people with fever and chills are “isolated and being treated”.
North Korean authorities have reported an explosion of the Omicron variant in the Pyongyang capital, and have announced isolation measures.
However, they did not show the exact numbers of infected people.
Some experts believe that the virus has been present for some time now in this state, despite the fact that the authorities officially announced the first case on May 12.
They believe that this country with a population of 25 million is vulnerable, as North Korea has not provided vaccines against coronavirus and has refused supplies of vaccines from manufacturers AstraZeneca and Sinovac.
North Korea’s only way to fight the coronavirus has been through the closure of its external borders since January 2020.
The North Korean authorities have also banned the import of some products, which has affected food shortages and weakening the economy.REL
