A new explosion was recorded on the southeastern slope of Mount Etna with a real lava fountain and a smoke colony 10 kilometers away, local media say.
The joy of the spectacular view of the volcano, is now giving way to worries about this continuation of its activity. Etna has not stopped roaring for weeks, and the latest volcanic cloud has been so large that it has covered entire communities, over which the volcano has released even ash and rocks.
Authorities have prepared an emergency plan, which also provides for a timely response to transport. The last major eruption of the 3,200-meter-high volcano was in 2002, which seriously threatened the small town of Linguaglossa.
Etna is the most active volcano in Europe and for this reason, it remains an extremely popular tourist destination. Although it is widely considered that it does not pose a threat to the local population, it is still closely monitored.
