A serious collision between two passenger trains occurred today (Monday) afternoon before 17.00 in Munich, Germany, where at least one person died and many others were injured.
The two passenger trains collided with each other in Munich apparently traveling in one direction, injuring dozens of people on board, some of them with serious injuries.
Local media said the tragic accident happened around 4:40 a.m. and numerous emergency groups went to the scene to help, said the police and Munich.
Local media reported that the number of dead reached 40 while the driver of the train had been trapped in the cabin for more than an hour by the collision.
S-Bahn trains hit each other near Schäftlarn station south of Munich, as police announced: “Numerous emergency service groups are at the scene, there are unarmed people and the line is currently closed.”
The force of the collision had derailed one of the trains.
Firefighters were seen cutting pieces of wagons to free the stranded.
Witnesses told the media that one of the trains stopped constantly and then passengers heard a loud noise when the collision occurred. Smoke started to appear in the carriages and the passengers got out of them.
One of the trains derailed but stood up.
Police are investigating the causes.
