More than 300 people have been accused of taking part in the deadly January 6 attack, in which supporters of then-US President Donald Trump attacked the US Congress.
Deputy Attorney General John Carlin told reporters that at least 280 people charged by the Justice Department have already been arrested.
“Investigations into those responsible are moving fast, on an unprecedented scale,” he said.
“Those responsible will face justice,” Carlin added.
At least five people were killed, including a police officer, when violent protesters attacked Congress in a bid to stop the certification of Joe Biden’s victory over Trump in the November 3 presidential election.
Most of the persons were arrested, as they themselves had posted on social networks, indicating that they had participated in this event. Some of those arrested have been charged with threatening U.S. lawmakers.
One week after the incident, the House of Representatives filed charges against Trump for inciting unrest, but on February 13, the Senate found him innocent for this charge.
