The Pentagon says Russian troops are making little progress on Ukrainian soil as we enter our 20th day since launching our offensive.
A convoy of troops moving towards Kiev is located about 20 km outside it.
The Russians continue to face fierce resistance in their attempt to take Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second largest city, and Mykolaiv, a southern city near the Black Sea.
However, the occupying forces have isolated Chernihiv in the north and Mariupol in the southeast, although the US says Ukraine is working to keep communication lines open with local leaders.
The defense official says the Russians and Ukrainians have used about 90% of their combat power.
More US-funded weapons are expected to arrive in Ukraine over the next 24 hours, the US official said.
