Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday morning ordered the start of the invasion of Ukraine, releasing a battery of grenades and rockets just minutes later. Emergency sirens sounded in the Ukrainian capital, Kiev.
Terrified people rushed to leave, a large number of cars were seen on the streets, as panic engulfed the residents of Kiev.
Those who left hurried to the basements, while Kiev metro stations are also reportedly turning into makeshift bunkers.
Eyewitnesses told CNN that subway stations were filled with people taking large quantities of food with them.
“The stations are full,” said a Kiev resident.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, announced earlier that Russia had carried out missile attacks on Ukraine’s infrastructure and on border guards.
Through a Twitter post, he said he has talked to Western allies and called on them to help the country with defense and finances.
Some Ukrainian cities are already under cyber attack; a number of Websites have crashed while there are also communication difficulties.
