Pharmaceutical company Pfizer said its boosters against Covid 19 could be co-administered with the pneumonia vaccine, and this combination of vaccines, according to the company, produces a stronger and safer immune response.
Pfizer said that these data come from studies conducted on persons over 65 years of age and that the study is in its final stage.
In the study, which began in May, the company tested the next-generation pneumococcal vaccine called PREVNAR 20, and 570 study participants received the vaccine along with the booster dose of the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine against the coronavirus.
The aim of the study was to test the safety of this combination and the immune response by supplementing the existing pneumonia vaccine and the Covid 19 vaccine.
The data from this study supports the potential administration of PREVNAR 20 along with the Pfizer vaccine against coronavirus, which is said to reduce the number of people visiting doctors or pharmacies for recommended immunizations, Pfizer said.
The US Food and Drug Administration in June last year approved the use of PREVNAR 20 in order to help the growing population against pneumococcal disease and pneumonia.
Participants in this study were taken from the final phase study for the Covid 19. vaccine. All had been immunized with the second dose for at least six months before participating in this new study.
