The Russian Interior Ministry says it has captured two Russian soldiers from Russia’s elite Spetsnaz unit.
Historically, this term referred to the special operations units controlled by the GRU’s main military intelligence service (Spetsnaz GRU).
It also describes the task forces of other ministries (such as the ODON of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the special rescue unit of the Ministry of Emergency Situations) in post-Soviet countries.
