In the Parliament of Northern Macedonia on Monday there were physical clashes between the chairman of the Committee on European Affairs, Arbër Ademi, who comes from the ruling party, the Democratic Union for Integration, and the opposition MPs, respectively VMRO-DMNE and the Alliance for Albanians.
The dumping of items by Adem happened at the moment when the opposition deputies asked for the floor for the agenda, where was also the draft-law on the work of the courts, which provides for the extension of the work of judges until the age of 67.
The deputies of the Alliance for Albanians and VMRO-DPMNE oppose such a measure, as they consider that with it, the government aims to “keep its people in the courts”, in order to “protect crime and corruption”.
In a video published by VMRO-DPMNE MP Mille Lletkov, it is seen that MPs Dafina Stojanovska and Antinio Milososki from VMRO-DPMNE approach Adem’s table and remove his microphone. After that it seems that Ademi hits Milososki in the hand and throws a bottle of water in the direction of the other deputies.
The opposition blamed Adem for the incident, accusing him of “violent behavior”.
“This is how the chairman of the Committee on European Affairs behaves. Humiliation, violence and insults in the Assembly! Macedonia [e Veriut]”Instead of Europe, it has become a savage West with a ‘cowboy’ in power,” Lletkov said.
The Alliance for Albanians said that Adem’s action is “vulgar”.
“The chairman of the Commission for European Affairs, the former Minister of Education and Science, who in the same vulgar way, took over the competencies in education and changed the principals whenever he remembered in Gostivar, today appears with a strange clinical picture in Assembly. Misery and shame! “Not from the position he holds, but from the title he holds”, it is said in the reaction of Arben Taravari, general secretary of the Alliance for Albanians.
But the Democratic Union for Integration said in a statement that “VMRO and the Alliance for Albanians protect crime and violate the Assembly” and blamed the two parties for the incident.
“Whenever the topic of discussion and on the agenda in the Assembly is the establishment of justice in the country, VMRO-DPMNE and the Alliance for Albanians provoke verbal and physical violence, in order to protect crime and always appear against the proper functioning of the judicial system.” it is said in the DUI reaction.
There have been incidents in the Assembly of Northern Macedonia before, and the most serious is the one on April 27, 2017, when supporters of VMRO-DPMNE entered the Assembly, using violence against the deputies of the parties since that time. have been part of the parliamentary majority.
