Vacation bookings in Spain, Greece and other destinations erupted these days after British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that travel could resume by mid-May.
EasyJet, says ticket bookings on flights from Britain increased by more than 300 per cent after that. While the holiday company, TUI UK, reported a 500 percent increase in bookings, comparing both of those figures to a week ago. The airline Jet2, also said that its bookings had increased by more than 600 percent.
There is still a lot of uncertainty about the exact number of international trajectories to be reopened, with many industry leaders looking for a detailed aviation plan to get things moving again.
British holidaymakers, however, will learn more on April 12, when their government announces the travel review. The government has said the isolation banning most international travel will remain in place until at least May 17. However, airlines have said they need to be notified in advance in order to plan summer agendas, a process that takes months.
Britain’s return to normalcy is being helped by its rapid progress with vaccination. Over 17.7 million people have received the first dose of the vaccine there. The government is also considering the possibility of vaccine passports. Slow programs in Europe, however, could hamper the recovery of cross-border tourism this summer.
