Poland has announced the opening of a new military cyber security unit.
The Minister of Defense, Mariusz Blaszczak, stressed that the goals of the unit include the protection, detection and, if necessary, the protection of the Polish Armed Forces from cyber attacks.
“We are aware that cyber attacks have become tools of 21st century politics and have also been used by our neighbor,” Blaszczak said, referring to Russia.
Stressing that the cyber security force would be a fundamental and key part of the Polish Armed Forces, Blaszczak said that General Koral Molenda of the Polish Army was appointed head of the unit.
The move comes after in 2021 the private e-mail of the head of the office of the Polish Prime Minister, Michal Dworczyk, was hacked and made available online.
