Poland has been committed to an EU embargo on Russian energy supplies. Prime Minister Morawiecki has now stated that by the end of 2022 he wants to cut off Russian oil and natural gas supplies.
By the end of the year, Poland aims to become independent of Russian oil and gas supplies. This was stated by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki in Warsaw. His country has already significantly reduced its dependence on Russian oil and is pursuing the EU’s most radical plan to end imports of Russian energy sources, Morawiecki said.
Prohibition of Russian coal imports
On Tuesday, Poland announced a ban on coal imports from Russia. He expects this measure to be implemented in April or later in May, Morawiecki made clear. Poland produces almost 80 percent of its energy from coal, but can also import it from Australia, South Africa or Colombia.
The Polish Prime Minister called on EU member states to follow his country’s example. According to him, the European Commission should impose a tax on all energy imports from Russia.
Expansion of renewable energies
