Through a letter, Pope Francis has appealed to all believers that March 2, which is also a Wednesday, be a day of prayer and fasting for peace in Ukraine.
Pope Francis: I feel a great pain in my heart for the deteriorating situation in Ukraine. Despite the diplomatic efforts of recent weeks, increasingly alarming scenarios are unfolding. Like me, many people around the world are experiencing anxiety and worry. Once again the peace of all is threatened by the interests of the parties.
I want to appeal to those who have political responsibilities, to make a serious examination of conscience before God, who is the God of peace and wants us to be brothers and not enemies. I call on all parties involved to refrain from any action that causes even more suffering for populations, destabilizing coexistence between nations and discrediting international law.
And now I would like to appeal to everyone, believers and non-believers. Jesus has taught us to respond to the devilish folly of violence with the weapons of God, with prayer and fasting. I invite everyone to make a day of fasting for peace on March 2, Wednesday and Gray. I especially encourage believers to devote themselves to prayer and fasting on that day.
The queen of peace saved the world from the folly of war.
