The Deputy Director General of Prisons, Femi Sufaj told some details for “Albania Live” about the project of employment of prisoners in our country.
He said employment is seen from two perspectives, the first relating to the need for manpower and the second as a necessary rehabilitation agenda.
Sufaj explained that not only the possibility of employment is being seen inside the prison but also outside it, mentioning cleaning, cooking and working in tailoring.
The employment will be realized based on the risk that the convict may have and to do this there will be a commission which will assess the situations, while adding that the payment will be 25% of the minimum wage in Albania.
“Contracts have been finalized for this workforce and job positions have been foreseen and so far there are 380 jobs throughout the country. They will work within the security perimeter while alternatives in the private sector will be used for semi-liberty sentences.“, Said Sufaj.
According to him, the work in the private sector will be realized by bringing the equipment inside the prison to create a suitable working environment, while the payment will be made according to the contract based on the minimum wage in Albania.
The most numerous requirements are to be employed in different companies as the salary is better.
Employment of prisoners is not a new initiative in our country as this method was used years ago.
What was noticed in the studio was the opinion of the lawyer Idajet Beqiri who said that not only the payment but also their desire to reduce the days of imprisonment should be seen.
