As of yesterday, Dritan Abazovic is the new Prime Minister of Montenegro. Parliament voted with 45 votes in favor, the government formed by him, which consists of 8 ministries, two of them Albanian.
But who is Dritan Abazovic?
Dritan Abazovic, 36, was born in 1985 in Ulcinj to an Albanian family, the Abazi family. After finishing primary and secondary school in Ulcinj, Abazovic continued his higher studies at the Faculty of Political Science at the University of Sarajevo, where he graduated and completed his doctorate in 2019. Abazovic completed his other studies in Norway and the United States.
After returning to Montenegro, Abazovic first started working as a teacher in a gymnasium in Ulcinj, then would run Teuta TV for the next two years.
Abazovic is the leader of the URA (United Reform Action) party.
Abazovic speaks Albanian very well, but to the disappointment of many Albanians, he is not known for his patriotic feelings. Many have not even hesitated to call him a “traitor” because of his statement on a TV show where he said that the mother of the Albanian national hero, Gjergj Kastriot, was a Serb. Statement for which he later apologized.
Abazovic is already the third Albanian prime minister in the Balkans.
