A statue of Cristiano Ronaldo has been erected in India. The portrayal of the Manchester United star was inaugurated in Goa, one of the former Portuguese colonies, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of its liberation.
“If we want to raise the level of our football, the younger generations must take inspiration from CR7“, Declared the Minister Michael Lobo during the presentation of the bronze statue of the 5 times winner of the” Golden Ball “.
The small Indian state is the only one where football is preferred more than cricket, but the statue of the Lusitanian striker has caused controversy, especially on the part of far-right protesters.
The latter waved black flags in protest, saying: “The erection of a statue of a Portuguese this year is sacrilege and a great insult to those who fought for the freedom of Goa.
We are very disappointed, we must learn to be proud of our icons like Samir Naik and Bruno Coutinho “, referring to the two symbols of local football.
