Angry demonstrators clashed with police yesterday in the Chilean capital Santiago in support of Francisca Sandoval, the journalist shot in the head in the May 1 protest.
Sandoval is in serious condition in hospital.
Journalist Fabiola Moreno said that today’s protest is to highlight what happened on Sunday.
“It’s important to be here today, to continue our effort and to highlight what happened on Sunday.”
“Sunday’s protest was a trap. They were waiting for us to attack us. “Attacks and provocations had started before the start of the demonstration,” she said
Unionist Guillermo Ulloa said what happened to Francisca would not stop the protests.
“Francisca is our colleague and represents the effort of all of us here, so we will continue to fight, take to the streets and not succumb to the fear they want to impose on us,” Ulloa said.
Journalist Benjamin Lillo also supported his colleagues:
“Francisca, you are part of a house we are building, a house that costs us our heart and our pain.
“Your heart continues to beat today despite the difficult situation, so it is our duty to accompany you as a family, as journalists, with the conscience of comrades.”
