Pro-Russian politician Viktor Medvedchuk has called on Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to be released in exchange for Ukrainian forces and civilians trapped in the besieged city of Mariupol.
“I, Medvedchuk Viktor Vladimirovich, would like to address the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, and the President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, with a prayer for the Ukrainian side to exchange me with the defenders of Mariupol and its citizens who are there today. and do not have access to a safe exit through a humanitarian corridor“, Said Medvedchuk through a video message.
Zelensky announced last week that Medvedchuk had been arrested in a “special operation”.
It is unclear whether Medvedchuk, who has faced charges of treason in Ukraine, was speaking out against his will and where he recorded the video.
His wife, Oksana Marchenko, has posted videos appealing for the release of her husband in exchange for British nationals captured by Russian forces in Mariupol.
