The Prefect of Vlora, Flamur Mamaj, Deputy. The Minister of Defense, Dallëndyshe Bici, the Head of Civil Emergencies Haki Çako and the Mayor of Vlora, Dritan Leli, spoke about the problematic situation as a result of the intense rain.
The intensity of the rain caused the outflow of the Vjosa river bed, breaking the flooded embankment of the houses in the village of Fitore. A problematic situation also arose in Fier, from where 20 apartments located near the Vjosa riverbed in Ferras were flooded.
Heavy rains have caused the river to overflow its banks, while excavators are working on the ground to open the drainage canals. Residents say this situation is being repeated every year.
Mayor Mamaj said that the situation is calmer now and the level in the Vjosa River has started to decrease, also less problematic is the situation in the bridge of Mifol, Memaliaj and Përmet.
“We are in a situation of calm after a long ordeal of 24 hours of raising the level of the river Vjosa, both in the bridge of Mifol, as well as in Memaliaj and Përmet. We are in the conditions of improving the atmospheric conditions, I say with full conviction that we have passed the point of danger and we are towards the stabilization of the situation. “I take the opportunity to say that due to the measures taken by the civil protection, we have managed to face all the consequences caused by the river Vjosa, we faced very small costs and minimal damage in this segment”, he said.
Meanwhile, Deputy. Minister Bici said that the Armed Forces have been on the ground for 48 hours now, to come to the aid of the affected families, while adding that the damages will be inspected and immediate measures will be taken.
“75 Armed Forces are on the ground together with the relevant means to come to the aid of families. So far, assistance has been provided to 30 families in the municipalities of Fier and Vlora. The situation will be in control, with what we are already seeing it seems to me that nature is turning to our side. In addition to work, we hope that God will be on our side. All damages are being inspected and immediate measures will be taken to correct them. “It is important not to have loss of life, which are more important than bridge facilities”, said Bici.
The head of Civil Emergencies, Haki Çako, said that the critical level of Vjosa has already dropped, and thus the reduction of the level in Memaliaj, Përet, Mifol and all other problematic areas has been favored.
“We continue to be in the most important phase. The critical level of Vjosa has already dropped, it is towards the dismissal of Vjosa and the reduction of the level in Memaliaj and Përmet. He also favored the dismissal in Mifol and all the areas that had his addition. All structures continue to be standing. “It was two intense days, fortunately nature favors us”, said Cako.
Mayor Leli told the media that the maximum has been done to come to the aid of residents whose homes have been endangered.
“Starting yesterday, all the residents whose houses were endangered were notified. Maximum has been done in order for the residents to leave. There were those who chose to stay and were evacuated today. The water level in the Vjosa River has a decrease, the embankments have received a great help. We must all be careful, especially the residents of this area, we hope to have an improvement of the situation “said Leli.
