The number of daily coronavirus infections in Poland has reached a record 36,665 cases recorded in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health announced today.
In the same period, 248 deaths were recorded in Poland due to Covid-19 a country with a population of 38 million. About 30 percent of new infections were due to the contagious variant of Omicron, Deputy Health Minister Waldemar Kraska told Radio Plus, adding that Omicron would become dominant within days.
Last week, two-thirds of the Polish government’s medical advisory board resigned over its treatment of the coronavirus crisis. Thirteen of the 17 members left the panel, saying the government was not following the scientific recommendations.
The nationalist-conservative PiS government has long been accused by the opposition of avoiding imposing harsh social restrictions at the expense of public health.
Critics say the government is trying to appease opponents of the Covid-19 vaccine in its ranks.
