Thousands of Israeli ultra-nationalists marched in Jerusalem this Sunday. As Jewish flags fluttered, they paraded through the city’s main streets, a move that has been considered a serious provocation by Palestinians.

Last year, a similar march sparked an 11-day war between Israel and Gaza militants. The riots took place in a complex on top of a hill, which is considered a holy place by both Jews and Muslims. This complex is home to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site in Islam. It is also the holiest place for the Jews, who call it the Temple Mount and consider it the home of biblical temples.
