Economist Pano Soko made a clear explanation of where Albanians are taxed in the fuel sector.
In “Open”, Soko said that as a poor society we should have free consumption, but the opposite happens.
“We can understand the problems that the production chain carries until it goes to work. We have an excise tax. Excise is a punitive tax on goods that create costs at the expense of the state budget.
Oil, tobacco, alcohol. Why oil? That oil harms pollution, and human health, so the state pays, it pays for hospitals. We have the highest of this. But why do we have turnover tax? We pay at the test, then we pay the registration fee. Here’s where we got exhausted for the asset we have, and the damage it causes.
To close the loopholes and tax evasion they cause, we take them from consumers. We are a poor society, we should have free consumption. “Taxes burden the price, not the fuel market.” said Soko.
