Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly asked to be allowed to leave Manchester United.
Despite enjoying a successful return to Old Trafford from an individual perspective, Ronaldo has been the subject of huge speculation this summer given United’s results last season.
And now, Duncan Castles has revealed exclusively in The Times that it really looks like Ronaldo will try to leave United before the start of the 2022/23 season.
It is claimed that Ronaldo’s decision has been driven by a desire to see out his career playing Champions League football, believing he only has three or four more years at the top level to win major trophies.
Close friends are said to believe that Ronaldo’s love and support for United remains as strong as ever, but that he also has personal reasons for wanting to leave with his family, who are said to be going through a difficult time.
Ronaldo returned to United, for whom he played between 2003 and 2009, ahead of the 2021/22 season after spending three seasons in Italy with Juventus.
The Portuguese superstar won the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award scoring 24 goals in 38 games, including six goals from seven games in the Champions League.
