UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly has accused Russia of failing to meet its international commitments on military transparency.
Speaking to the UN Security Council, Cleverly said the whole world could see that “Russia has deployed the necessary forces to invade Ukraine and is now ready to act.”
Regarding Russian rhetoric of a withdrawal, he said it was “very clear that the opposition is in fact real and Russian military construction continues.”
“Russia’s actions are clearly designed to intimidate, threaten and destabilize Ukraine. We know, they know and the international community knows. If Russia is serious about a diplomatic resolution “then it should appear at diplomatic meetings and engage in meaningful OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe) talks”, seeing that they did not show up on Wednesday and did not they intend to appear on Friday as well “.
