At the height of the Ukrainian crisis, Russia and China decided to join forces and immediately start implementing the joint space program for the construction of a base on the Moon, by 2035.
The agreement was confirmed by the Chinese government and officials from the National Space Administration. The purpose of such a common base on Earth’s only natural satellite will be primarily research, but it also poses a challenge to NASA’s US Artemis and Lunar Gateway project.
“Russia and China intend to complete the construction of the main infrastructure for the establishment of this base by 2035“, Stated the senior Chinese official, Wu Yanhua.
The plan of Beijing and Moscow is to combine the base on the surface of the Moon with a space station in its orbit.
NASA’s project is for a station around the Moon, with the ability to send a river for research.
The Russians and the Chinese said that any other country that wants to join their ambitious initiative is welcome, marking the beginning of space conquest and the beginning of a new era for humanity.
