A day after announcing troop withdrawals on the border with Ukraine, Russia claimed that military exercises in Moscow annexed Crimea had also ended and that soldiers were returning to their garrisons.
Russian state television broadcast footage of soldiers crossing a bridge connecting the Russian-controlled peninsula.
All of these moves come at a time when Western leaders continue to remain concerned that Moscow may once again launch an attack on the neighboring country. How to reinforce their fears, the websites of the Ukrainian armed forces and some ministries and banks in the country, have fallen prey to cyber attacks.
The defense ministry’s Facebook and Twitter accounts will now be used as official communication channels until the site is restored. The Center for Communication and Information Security of the Ministry of Culture did not openly indicate the doubts about who bears the responsibility of the cyber offensive, but in the issued statement it was hinted that the main doubts fall precisely on Moscow.
