Russia and Belarus plan to hold joint military exercises in February or March 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin said today at the beginning of his meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko in St. Petersburg.
“We will conduct the exercises and the army will agree, in March or February, I do not know when they will decide.” said the Russian president, commenting on Lukashenko’s request that the two countries conduct joint military exercises.
Planned exercises on Belarusian soil come amid unprecedented East-West tensions, with Russia demanding that NATO promise not to admit Ukraine to its borders, which border Russia and Belarus.
Ukraine claims that Russia may be preparing an invasion, which Moscow has denied.
