Warships from Russia’s northern fleet crossed the Arctic Ocean today for training maneuvers, military chiefs announced, as part of a series of multiple naval maneuvers amid rising tensions with the West.
The Russian Defense Ministry said the mission in the Barents Sea included missile launcher Marshal Ustinov, frigate Admiral Kasatonov, giant anti-submarine fighter Admiral Kulakov, and a number of naval support vehicles.
The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a convoy of Russian economic zones in the region, the statement said.
Meanwhile, other military maneuvers are being carried out in the Mediterranean, by both Russia and NATO.
Moscow says it has currently deployed 140 warships and support vehicles, more than 60 fighter jets and about 10,000 navies.
NATO and its partners have announced that in a few days they will begin their military maneuvers in the European Arctic with the American Aircraft Carrier Group 8.
Russia also aims to increase the use of the Arctic Route in trade, announcing that by 2024 it wants to pass through it 80 million tons of goods per year.
