Russia’s Defense Ministry has released footage showing Russian naval vessels crossing the Bosphorus and Dardanelles Strait from the Mediterranean to the Black Sea to take part in a massive naval exercise amid the Ukraine crisis.
The maneuvers have fueled fears in the west and escalated military tensions as tens of thousands of Russian troops await an order to attack the Ukrainian border.
A few days ago, two US officials said Russia had amassed at least 70% of its military forces, which it would need in case Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Officials who spoke on condition of anonymity put forward a number of indications that Mr. Putin is aiming to launch an invasion in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile, Russian fighter jets continue to arrive at the military airfield in Brest, Belarus. Su-25M aircraft are designed to hit ground targets and operate in support of unit maneuvers on the ground.
