Russian military forces are believed to have already entered Ukraine as Kiev announced the dismantling of a possible provocative attack before the possible invasion, wrote the British tabloid “The Sun”.
Kiev today claimed to have dismantled a group of saboteurs coordinated by “Russian special services” to carry out a series of attacks in Zhytomyr and Kharkiv.
Kharkiv is close to the border with Russia while Zhytomyr is close to the capital Kiev and several hundred kilometers away from the border with Belarus.
Ukrainian intelligence services SBU said the Russian-backed group was planning attacks on the city’s infrastructure in order to “destabilize” the border region.
The development comes as the head of the British army James Heappey said that “part of the Russian army has already advanced in Ukraine.”
Fears of war in the region are serious from reports of an accumulation of 100,000 Russian troops on the border with Ukraine.
As is often the case in such cases, fake attacks can be organized by one side to “justify” the incursion into the other group, for which, according to the British media, criminals, mercenaries, militants or even Kiev forces can be used.
Ukrainian authorities released footage of a special forces operation in an apartment where they seized weapons and money.
The SBU said explosive devices, light weapons, ammunition and computers were found.
“The gang of organizers was preparing to carry out a series of robberies and attacks on infrastructure, to destabilize the internal situation in the regions.”
British Prime Minister Johnson has ruled out sending British troops but has said it will supply arms to Ukraine and support sanctions against Russia.
NATO has sent warships and helicopters to the conflict zone while the president President Joe Biden is expected to complete the deployment of 50,000 troops to Eastern Europe.
Military resources say 30 Russian trains with troops and weapons have entered Belarus in recent days and others to follow.
