Not without purpose, the Vice President of the European Commission Josep Borrell during his visit to Tirana stopped at the role of Russia in the Balkans when he said:
Josep Borrell: We are certainly concerned about Russia’s intervention and influence in the Western Balkans, but that is not a bad thing. Russian disinformation is a word we use to talk about propaganda and systematic lies, it has grown, we look and perceive this. We need to understand and face Russian influence, wherever it is in the Western Balkans, in some countries more than in others.
Prime Minister Edi Rama assessed Moscow’s claim that Albania and Kosovo are sending mercenaries to Russia as baseless and disturbing accusations. It further advanced Borrrel’s stance on Russia.
Edi Rama: “Rising prices are a weapon that Russia seeks to use against us, as countries, to oppose public opinion to governments, so that governments begin to give in to the pressure they are putting on Russia, not on Ukraine itself.” but to guarantee the future of all countries that are in line after Ukraine and to avoid a Third World War. This weapon that the Kremlin is using, we must neutralize with a lot of patience, with a lot of determination and great clarity.
Prime Minister Edi Rama and the Vice President of the European Commission, currently link Albania’s advancement on the European path with the French EU presidency. Mr Borrell acknowledged that the war in Ukraine had raised awareness of enlargement by acknowledging that the pace of the process had slowed.
Edi Rama: The French presidency can do it in June, it would be good to do it, but even if it does not, we are still here and waiting for it to be done, but we do not wait a second to continue the same work we have done, that should we do and we will do and that bring us closer and closer to the standards of the European Union, here in Albania.
