Russia’s upper house of parliament has approved a request by President Vladimir Putin to use military force abroad.
This decision is seen as the finalization of military deployment in the separatist regions of eastern Ukraine.
The announcement comes a day after Putin recognized the Donetsk and Luhansk regions, which are controlled by Russian-backed separatists, as independent entities.
Also, this decision of the Russian authorities may warn of Putin’s intentions to launch a wider attack on Ukraine. Western leaders have previously said that Russian troops have been deployed in eastern Ukraine, and the United States has called Russia’s move an invasion.
Putin has also signed treaties of friendship with the two eastern regions of Ukraine, which also provide for the deployment of Russian troops there./REL
