On Friday it was reported how Ukraine was honoring 13 soldiers who said they were killed while defending the island of Zmiinyi (Snake) from Russian attacks.
But new information suggests the unit may still be alive, according to a Facebook post yesterday by the State Service of the Ukrainian Border Guard.
“The SBGSU and the armed forces, like the whole of Ukraine, have received hope that all of Zmiinyi’s defenders are alive,” the update said.
The government agency says it is working to identify the soldiers based on information about their possible current location.
“We sincerely hope the boys return home as soon as possible and the information received at the time of the death attack will not be confirmed.”
