The lack of fuel in Sri Lanka has led to the worst economic crisis in seven decades, which was followed by the closure of several schools and the continuation of work from home.
The island with a population of 22 million located in the Indian Ocean has consistently had queues for gasoline in a period of shortage.
This has made it difficult to pay for essential imports of food, medicine and, most importantly, fuel.
“I was in line for four days, I did not sleep or eat properly during this time. “We can not win, we can not feed our families,” said a driver waiting in line.
According to Reuters, the Minister of Energy said that 9,000 diesels and 6,000 tons of gasoline were stored, at the same time indicating that no new deliveries are expected.
The government has told employees to work from home until the second notice, while schools have been closed for a week.
