This week’s headline was a scandal that took place in a village of Librazhd, where father-in-laws filmed their bride in her bedroom, as they physically and psychologically abused her, as she was with her boyfriend.
The scandal does not end there, as their video was distributed by some “media”, which treated betrayal at length, but not violence.
The question arises as to whether or not events like this should be treated, and if so, how and in what way.
Top Channel journalist Arben Malaj in a skype connection with “Top Talk” from London, making a parallel if this event would be reported in Britain, clearly said that cases involving ordinary people are not covered, only if they are public people.
Journalist Arben Malaj: The sky is the limit for us journalists whether to report or not, the problem is how to report. The problem is with the phenomenon, not the individual. I feel sorry for the media, which severely violated the privacy of the person whose right is protected in the Convention on Human Rights. It is unimaginable that such events take place in Britain. Such events are covered here, but rarely of ordinary persons and a little more public people and have an interest in the public. Again there are some red lines that are not crossed.
Malaj said that the most wrong thing that happened with the media reporting in Albania, was that they did not deal with violence, but with the privacy of the girl.
Arben Malaj: For me it was an execution of this girl. Here in Britain, they would not report this. They are careful when reporting such events. In Albania they have dealt with other things, not violence. Personal life belongs to everyone. I was impressed why no one reacted, even an MP.
