Six people were killed after Russia bombed a building in the eastern Ukrainian town of Toreck, Ukraine’s emergency services said on July 18.
“This morning, the town of Toreck was shelled. A two-story building, with people inside, was destroyed.”said the State Service for Emergency Situations of Ukraine.
“Rescue teams found and recovered the bodies of five dead people. Three people were rescued from the wreckage and one of them died at homel”, the statement added.
Rescuers said they have ended the search for other survivors.
Toreck, a town with a population of 30,000, is located about 50 kilometers south of Kramatorsk, one of the last Ukrainian-controlled towns in the east of the country.
On July 17, the Ukrainian military said that Russia is preparing for the new phase of its offensive in Ukraine, following orders from Moscow to increase military operations. Russia’s main goal is to take control of Donetsk and Luhansk, the two provinces that make up the Donbass region. But Russia is currently carrying out attacks in central, northeastern and southern Ukraine as well.
Ukraine said that in recent days its forces are preparing themselves for major counterattacks to take back lost territory, particularly in the south of the country.
