The person advertised as the richest in the world and until recently the eighth most followed on the social network Twitter has taken control of the platform, with the promise to dedicate more to “free speech”, but for critics something like that raises more questions than answers, writes the British Independent.
Some of the most mentioned doubts are: “Why will he take control? Where does the money come from? Are the shareholders satisfied? What will change on the platform? ”
Musk has previously said the service is not maintaining its potential as a “free speech platform.”
He insists he is not interested in making money from Twitter but is motivated by the fact of having a “trusted, broadly inclusive platform, which is important for future generations”.
Twitter, like other social networks, suspends accounts for violating “content standards” including “hate speech or harmful information”, which have been proven to be abused or misused.
Suspension of former US president Donald Trump from the platform angered millions of his supporters and now they can be offered a “return opportunity”.
Musk describes himself as an “absolutist of free speech” – but regulators have accused him earlier than his company Teslaare punitive measures against employees of color or voices who have spoken out against discrimination.
Musk may be the richest man in the world, but his shares are mostly associated with the Tesla Group and the space company. SpaceX.
He claims to have significant assets in cryptocurrencies, mainly Bitcoin, Ethereum (ETH) and some Dogecoin or “HODL”.
The British daily says that “you have nothing safe with Musk”.
When he says that Twitter is not realizing its potential as a “free speech platform”, it seems that it will reduce the softening of the content and possibly the return of those who left the platform, including Donald Trump.
He has promised to reduce advertising and individual content adaptation, even going so far as to say that the network’s headquarters in San Francisco will be turned into a shelter for the homeless.
But in fact many social networks fail to control everything related to misinformation or incitement to hatred.
GlobalData online regulator’s expert Rachel Foster-Jones commented on the issue: “Regulators around the world would not like Musk’s theory of free speech at all, as the red line that separates free speech from incitement to hatred or misinformation, “It is becoming increasingly unclear, and attempts at such changes on Twitter could easily spiral out of control.”
