The Spanish Civil Guard today released images of the US-ordered seizure of a yacht owned by an oligarch linked to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The vessel worth more than 90 million euros belongs to the Russian millionaire Viktor Vekselberg, head of the Renova Group, who is not yet on the list of sanctioned.
The 78-meter-long yacht called Tango was raided in the Mediterranean port of Palma de Mallorca by Spanish police in coordination with US authorities, the Spanish guard said.
Renova has been on the sanctions list against Russia since 2018 as part of Washington’s efforts against Moscow’s attacks on “Western democracies.”
They said Vekselberg was not “currently” part of the EU sanctions, but was under investigation.
Authorities in Europe and the US have seized several yachts linked to powerful Russian businessmen since the start of the invasion of Ukraine.
