NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has stated after the meeting of the heads of government that the alliance has 100 aircraft on high alert, in 30 different countries.
He stressed that Russia is an aggressor, while Belarus is the enabler.
“The world demands accountability from Russia and Belarus for their actions,” Stoltenberg said.
He clarified that the Alliance has activated defensive military action plans. According to him, there is no room for misunderstandings, as NATO will protect every inch of NATO territory.
Russia will “pay a heavy price for the coming years” from this grave mistake, Stoltenberg continued.
“We are deploying elements of forces on land, sea and air in response to the invasion of Ukraine“, He said.
The NATO chief guaranteed that what would be done to protect every inch of the alliance’s territory would be done.
Stoltenberg clarified during his speech that the Kremlin’s objectives are not limited to Ukraine.
“We see that Ukrainian forces are fighting bravely and are able to inflict damage on Russian forces“, He said.
Russia’s rhetoric amid a complete invasion strongly indicates a plan to oust the elected government in Kiev, he added.
For Stoltenberg, there is no security in Europe “without a strong transatlantic link.”
