The Director of the Traffic Police Directorate, First Director Altin Qato has appeared at a press conference this afternoon, where he calls on all drivers to be aware of the road code as wrong overtaking and various violations become the cause of violation of the security of citizens.
He said that the biggest checks are during Fridays and Sundays and calls on all drivers to follow alternative routes in order to avoid traffic.
Qato said that we are in a clear trend of reducing accidents leading us towards the EU average.
“Yesterday we were in a forum with all partners with robotic security and thankfully we are in a visible trend of reducing accidents that leads us to the EU average.
However we are not satisfied and the police have increased the checks. With all actors we want to influence the education and awareness of citizens. In addition to the work we do, the police use all the tools at their disposal for traffic code penalties in order to raise awareness. The result is very positive but we want to minimize to zero level of accidents.
We also have many citizens coming from other countries so there is more movement in this period. No driver will tolerate making wrong overtaking because they disrupt civic coexistence and violate the road code. Everyone has to wait their turn. Friday is a very heavy day so there are more checks and Sunday also coming back.
The purpose is not to impose fines but to intervene in case of violation as security may be endangered. “
