A suspension bridge collapsed dramatically today in Mexico during the first ceremonial crossing after the renovation was completed.
Local media reported that there were several deaths but no official confirmation has yet been made.
At least eight people were injured, including a local leader and his wife.
Footage from the scene showed injured people receiving help after the tragic event.
Local media reported that Mayor José Luis Urióstegui, his wife and members of the press were among those injured in the collapse.
According to the American network TMZ, the American embassy in Mexico said that the singer Demi Lovato was one of the victims of the accident in Cuernavaca, as an honorary guest at the ceremony.
Preliminary investigations said that the collapse of the crossing may have occurred due to the heavy weight as at the time of the accident on the footbridge there were about 20 people, including officials.
At least seven injured were taken to the nearest hospital in Morelos.
The dramatic collapse occurred amid the renovation ceremony of the Cuernavaca resort plant.
