The Swedish Health Agency has recommended that citizens 80 years of age and older receive the fourth dose of the coronavirus vaccine, in order not to reduce the effectiveness of the vaccines.
The recommendation made on Monday by this agency also states that the fourth dose is recommended for all persons living in the care home or those receiving home assistance services.
The fourth dose, as recommended, should be administered at least four months after the booster dose, the Health Agency said.
Sweden earlier this year recorded record numbers of infections, as the Omicron variant of the coronavirus has spread rapidly across the country.
But Swedish authorities have lifted the restrictions, arguing that the milder symptoms of the Omicron variant and the booster immunization campaign have eased pressure on the healthcare system.
“The boosting dose increases the defense. “Therefore, we believe that people aged 80 and older will benefit from a second booster dose,” said epidemiologist Anders Tegnell.
The Swedish Health Agency said booster doses should be from Pfizer / BioNTech and Moderna.
