Next school year, with the start of classes on September 12, a new challenge will begin for new teachers: they will be assessed if they are psychologically fit to perform the task.
Following denunciations of violence and abuse in educational institutions, Education Minister Evis Kushi warned in late March that an initial and periodic psycho-social assessment would be launched for every teacher in the pre-university education system.
But recently, through an instruction, Minister Kushi differentiates the teachers employed for the first time with those who have experience.
Through a commission of 5 members, the newly appointed educational staff from the portal ‘Teachers for Albania’, 3 months after starting work will be psychologically tested and if the evaluation is positive they will continue teaching, otherwise they will be taken punitive measures up to dismissal.
For other school staff, psychological evaluation will be performed only in special cases when there are complaints.
All teachers have the right to appeal the assessment within 3 days at the local education offices and after reviewing the complaint within 5 days the final assessment is announced.
