Three people, two of them children, have been killed in a Russian attack on an apartment block in the eastern city of Rubizhne, says the head of the military authority in Luhansk.
“The tragedy occurred in the evening, when the Russian army intensified the bombing. A shell exploded on the fifth floor“, Said Serhiy Haidai, adding that the fire started in a business and an educational institution.
The Luhansk region is one of the main targets of the Russian military that is trying to take over the eastern areas that were not captured by the Russian-backed separatists in the war that started in 2014.
According to Ukrainian officials, more than 60 civilians have been killed in the region since the occupation began on February 24.
One of the most hit cities is Severodonetsk. The Ukrainian military says an evacuation corridor has been agreed upon. A humanitarian corridor has also been opened in Rubizhne. However people have been warned that despite the deal, there could be bombings by Russian forces.
